My 9 year old has a favorite stuffed wolf named Wolfie. She wanted to make her a bed for Christmas and made sure I took her out to the shop to do it.
Note: there are no pictures of Wolfie in his bed yet because she cannot see it before Christmas!!

The day before she had carefully measured Wolfie and written down her measurements. We talked about how much extra room she would need on her bed…and I talked her out of 4” of length ;0). Then we started looking around for appropriately sized materials that I was willing to let her use.

Kaylee might think she designed this bed, but she took every suggestion I gave her, so we’ll call it a collaboration ;0)

She did all of the measuring and marking of the pieces, I cut them for her.

Once she figured out that you’re supposed to smear the glue over the board with your finger to spread it evenly she really enjoyed that part.

Due to the different thicknesses of wood we used, we ended up needing 4 different nail guns to finish this little project. The 2” 18 gauge nail followed the grain right out, so we switched to a 16 gauge 2” nail that traveled straight. This is the only nailer Kaylee didn’t use since the battery design makes the gun huge!

Sometimes I drew her a line to mail along, sometimes I drew her dots.

She had so much fun making this for her stuffed animal, was so excited to have mom’s undivided attention for a few hours that she couldn’t stop bouncing :0)

I tried talking her into painting it, she opted out using the excuse that Wolfie liked it the way it was with all the different colors of wood. You can’t argue with Wolfie. So we sanded the edges a little and called it good!!!

Maybe she was just in a hurry to get me to the sewing room to make the blanket and pillow….

As soon as we finished with the pillow and quilt for this bed she was off measuring her sister’s stuffed animal so we could make him a bed for Christmas, it looked almost exactly the same, with slightly different dimensions and took half the time ;0).
Merry Christmas!
